MTL Group Capability
The MTL Group is distinguished by its ability
to offer complete solutions to a wide range of user problems. Although
perhaps best known for intrinsic safety barriers and isolators,
the group has, in recent years, expanded into other areas of process
control interfacing. A summary of the group's products, other than
surge protection, is given below.
Intrinsic Safety Barriers and Isolators
MTL's compact and inexpensive shunt-diode
IS barriers for protecting circuits in hazardous areas are mounted
and earthed in one operation, giving safe installation and the highest
reliability. MTL Isolators, an alternative to barriers, need no
high-integrity earth and can provide signal amplification and relay
options, while their hazardous and safe area isolation simplifies
installation and avoids earth-loop problems.
Process I/O - MTL8000 Series
MTL has conceived and developed an entirely
new generation of I/O modules. The world's first genuine field-mounted
Process I/O, MTL8000 does away with the need for conventional wiring.
It links to the control system on a single line through a high-speed
fieldbus, and can be used effectively in both IS and safe-area,
general purpose I/O applications. With a choice of two systems -
Modular and Block - MTL's Process I/O is both scalable and cost
effective for small nodes and large, high density applications.
TransPort™ and MTL I/O95™
Distributed I/O Systems
MTL Inc's distributed I/O systems provide
flexibility and cost savings by installing modules close to the
process being measured. Modules are intelligent and rugged, mount
on DIN rail and communicate with the host computer over twin-pair
cable, simplifying field wiring and marshalling and providing resilience
to system faults. The transport system is designed for use with
many bus-based systems including PC, VME and PLC's.
Non-IS Isolators
In India, MTL Instruments Ltd's non-IS signal
isolators, temperature transmitters and converters use galvanic
isolation to prevent earthing problems between field sensors and
control instrumentation. Sold worldwide, the compact DIN rail mounting
units are designed for ease of installation and use.
System Design and Integration
A number of MTL companies specialise in system
design and development. Their corporate disciplines include: design,
development and building of systems which enable vendors and end-users
of distributed control sy stems to integrate them with field instruments;
integration of MTL and OEM products into safety and control systems,
using both standard and custom-designed products; and process control
system design and manufacture, based on MTL distributed I/O modules
and IS isolators.
Gas Analysers, Detectors and Systems
Hitech Instruments Ltd manufacture a range
of fixed and portable instruments for hazardous and Non-hazardous
use, which provide fast, accurate on-line gas analysis and detection
for a variety of gases. specialist applications include Oxygen and
Hydrogen monitoring within the power, petrochemical and process
industries.
Escape-Route Lighting
Escapeline Ltd's Exitpath™ is a low-location
escape-route lighting system designed to help evacuate personnel
quickly and safely from hazardous areas. It provides a floor level
line of lighting strips and exit signs powered by intrinsically
safe power supplies. Escapeline is able to provide complete turnkey
packages of design, supply installation and commissioning.
